MOUNT Martha teenager Harry Geary has been selected to represent Australia as part of the world skate inline speed skating team at this year’s world skate games in Argentina.
Geary, 17, is one of three inline speed skaters in Australia selected for the games. Being held in Buenos Aires later this year, the skate games will run events in rink hockey, skateboarding, roller derby, inline downhill, artistic skating and inline speed skating.
Geary’s place at the games was cemented two weeks ago in Brisbane, when he won two gold medals and two silver medals at the 2022 National Inline Speed Skating Championships.
Geary’s mother Bernadine, who runs Sk8house in Carrum Downs with husband Kevin, said Harry was no stranger to competing overseas, starting as early as 14 when he competed in his first Oceania championships.
He has since been to China, New Zealand, Germany and Holland, competing in May in three of the European Cup 2022 circuit events, including racing the fastest track in the world, Geisingen International in Germany. In Argentina he will compete on a parabolic bank track, roads and in a 42 kilometre marathon.
“Harry has been on wheels since he was four and has trained every day that he possibly can,” she said.
Geary follows in the footsteps of his father and the team’s head coach, Kevin Geary, who was also selected to be the world coach in Argentina for the Australian inline speed skating team.
We wish Harry all the luck in the world and can't wait to see all that he achieves in Buenos Aires and beyond!
Harry's achievements are testament to the hard-work, determination and love that he has for his sport. It's also a great reflection on the Sk8house Speed Club. Confirming their dedication to excellence while still maintaining a very fun, supportive and competitive environment ensures their athletes can achieve their potential.
